For some of us, it is easy to remember a simpler time. Remember being the child playing about toys on the floor as Ma and Pa laughed just out of reach shrouded in the sounds of music crackling in the background. Remember the family and friends all united in vibrant conversation as Uncle Jim silently patrolled the area where the records were stored to make sure no one that didn’t care started rummaging and scratching the best collection this small bourgh had ever seen. Or the time that first song that you ever danced to with the love of your life came on the jukebox down at the local diner, and every weekend from there on out one of you was guaranteed to drop some coins for another round of that magical sound.
Of course, times have changed. Where once the tradition of changing from the A side to the B side and the silent reflection that separated the two along the silent hum in the background as the music played elegantly from across the room were held as part of the experience and revered, these days things have become more about the non-stop clarity of putting something on quickly and forgetting about it. No A or B sides, or even disks anymore, playlists are a constant in the background as thoughts of what came before and what comes next just fade into the aether of what it means to experience life. As convenient as that may be however, there was a certain nostalgia to the way the sound of silence the vinyl made when being slid from the album cover, the display of unique to that record alone alongside all its original and experiential glory, the silent hum of the needle winding its way into the sounds to come, and the overall appeal of melding all the sensual experiences together into what it meant to sit, listen, and be present.
Despite how wonderful this all may sound, at our souls as humans practicality reigns supreme and things move forward in a progression with the times towards new and equally relevant forms of socialized norms the nostalgic heart begins to call home. And with that too comes a reinvention of the things we held dear to our old souls alongside an ambition to bring them forth in equally distinct but familiar ways.
It is true what they say about the past being embedded in the present and the future being now – and in no other avenue does this reign supreme than in the world of digital collectibles known as NFTs. In a way, these are relics of the past tokenized into timeless secure and transparently verifiable works of art in imagery, movement, and even sound, and put out there on the blockchain for all to have the ability to experience and own. Although the wave of NFT music videos may be just beginning, the subtle crashing on the shore followed by the lightness of the music of the sand being carried back out to sea can’t help but remind us of the nostalgic way those records touched our souls.
For just as those experiences involved a multitude of sensations bringing about an ultimate experiential that was but impossible to be at least partially engaged, so too does the wonderful potential behind this new concept of #DigitalVinyl by mBlu Crypto. The bright colors of the combined album jacket with the subtle texture of the vinyl itself spinning elegantly to the sounds that accompany it have been re-imagined into the 21st century with all its glory.

Of course nothing will ever compare to what it is like to hold the real vinyl in your hand and see the nicks on the jacket or the jump in the needle and wonder where the story is within each one, but so too will nothing ever compare to what is being brought with this new concept of #DigitalVinyl in its own right. For it is within this concept of NFT’s that music now reforms itself back to an experience engaging all the senses with its curvatures and motions in all regards and beyond. For on the horizon there will come a time where NFT’s will display in specialized viewers for all to be able to engage in as they see the art in motion. And yes, did we just suggest that an NFT viewer full of these new age #DigitalVinyl collections is the ultimate redefinition of jukeboxes 2.0 — I believe yes, we just did.
DigitalVinyl 1.0 – and here you thought listening to music and the experiential nostalgia that goes along with it was a thing of the past…
